The Shape of Water toma forma en los premios de la crítica.

The Shape of Water obtiene el mayor número de nominaciones a los premios de la crítica. 

 

El Broadcast Film Critics’ Association (BFCA) y el Broadcast Television Journalists’ Association (BTJA) anunciaron sus nominados para cine y televisión. En la parte de cine, ¨The Shape of Water¨ del director Guillermo del Toro encabeza las nominaciones con 14. Mientras que “Call Me by Your Name,” “Dunkirk,” “Lady Bird” y “The Post” van en Segundo lugar con 8 cada una. El apartado de mejor película la completan “The Big Sick,” “Darkest Hour,” “The Florida Project,” “Get Out” y “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

En el lado de televisión los nominados por el Broadcast Journalist Association fueron ¨Feud: Bette and Joan¨ de FX que lleva la delantera con 6 nominaciones, incluyendo 3 para el elenco que incluye a Jessica Lange, Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci, Judy Davis y Jackie Hoffman. Le siguen ¨Fargo¨, también de FX y el éxito de HBO ¨Big Little Lies¨ ambas con 5. Una gran sorpresa ha sido las 4 nominaciones que obtuvo la serie de Netflix ¨Glow.¨ Mientras que Hulu logró 4 por su ganadora del Emmy ¨The Handmaids Tale¨. Fuera del cable y los servicios de streaming, NBC obtuvo 3 nominaciones para su exitosa serie ¨This is Us¨, y también series como ¨The Big Bang  Theory¨, ¨Black-ish¨ y ¨Modern Family.¨ Aunque el gigante de streaming Netflix no termina de encajar en los renglones de cine, sigue manteniendo una fuerte presencia en las nominaciones de TV, logrando nominaciones para sus series dramáticas ¨The Crown¨, ¨American Vandal¨, ¨Godless¨ y ¨Stranger Things.¨

 

 

 

 

 

A pesar de una larga lista de nominados en todas sus categorías, los Critics Choice Awards sorprendieron, no sólo, por sus elecciones sino también por omisiones. Primero en el área de cine incluyeron en la lista de posibles ganadoras a ¨The Shape of Water¨,  “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri” , las cuales no habían sido seleccionadas por ninguno de los otros premios importantes, hasta ahora. Las sorpresas en Televisión fueron las nominaciones para la nueva serie de Amazon ¨The Marvelous Mrs. Meisel¨ y la primera nominación para Sutton Foster por la serie ¨Younger¨ de TV Land.

 

 

Es importante mencionar la incidencia que tienen la selección de la crítica en el contexto de la temporada de premios, los críticos no votan para el Oscar, pero tienden a darle forma a la temporada de los premios, y en muchas ocasiones logran arrojar luz sobre proyectos y películas que pueden perderse en  el proceso. En el caso de la televisión su selección es de gran importancia y ayuda, pues puede incidir en los niveles de audiencia en las series y en el caso de las  nuevas a conseguir una segunda y hasta tercera temporada.

Desde el 2017, los premios de la crítica han “predecido” la película ganadora del Oscar 7 veces, 8 veces los de mejor actor y 5 veces en mejor actriz. Los premios Critics Choice Awards se entregaron en diciembre por A&E el año pasado. Este año se mudan de nuevo al CW y se presentaran el 11 de enero, 4 días antes que los Globos de Oro. Su transmisión será en vivo de 8:00 p.m. a 10:00 p.m.
